The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Comics Corner
Late late late!
Yes, I know! I'm late! But that doesn't mean we don't get some nice fan art this week. During the week I haven't played that much. I continued my Earthbound game. And... that's about it. I have started too many games at the same time. Contact, Baldur's Gate, Mother 3, Earthbound... I used to play one game at a time and now I already have four. Well, let's have a look at this week's drawings. In the spotlight today is Aggi's Ballad of The Windfish. You'll find bright colors, nice textures and an attention to detail in this picture. The composition is also very interesting with the sky echoing the shape of the egg. It is really a wonderful illustration. My only complaint is that Link has very short legs. I don't tend to comment on that kind of thing in the column, but I feel they should have been a bit longer. Boum has sent me several Final Fantasy VI fan art, and Aria di Mezzo Carattere is the last one of them. Those familiar with the game's soundtrack will obviously understand the reference with the character in the drawing. The piece of fabric she holds on to can also hint at a scene half-way through the game. Boum used a very stylised design for that character and simple colors but it works effectively. Next up is a Chrono Cross piece featuring a happy Kid opening a door. Please read the artist's comment for more info on the scene pictured in the drawing, but watch out for spoilers! The piece has a cartoony look and simple colors. I like the movement in the dress, it is very dynamic. I'm not sure about the door, though. It is unusual to have something placed like that on the side, filling so little place but being so present. It seems to work with the composition, somehow, so that's what counts, right? This week we also get some Earthbound love! This submission reminds me of another drawing involving tea time, posted before I started here. I find it funny that I can recognize the game in the way the cliffs are made. Good eye for detail on the artist's side lead to that. The scene is fun to look at, and be sure not to miss the Cute Lil' UFO flying in the background! Your last picture for the week features one of Final Fantasy's most loved villains, Sephiroth. Pictured here as in a portrait, he looks quite happy and calm. What I like in this drawing is the quality of the textures everywhere. It makes metal feel like metal and leather feel like leather, if that makes any sense. A round composition will often be static and boring, but in this case, the wings give it a nice twist, creating something that appears like a spiral around the character. Good job! Thank you readers for your interest in the column! I like it when you are demonstrative, but since I tend to keep silent on the boards or otherwise, I suppose I can forgive you all. Don't forget to take a look at the comics, because this week you get to see explosions and nice thighs. Have a good week everyone!
